Florence Copper and the Florence Copper Community Foundation are proud to announce the awarding of $9,000 in grants to local organizations for the second quarter of 2024. These grants are part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting and enhancing the well-being of the Florence community and surrounding areas.
The recipients of the Q2 2024 grants include a diverse range of initiatives, each dedicated to making a positive impact in their respective fields:
- Poston Butte High School – $1,500. The grant awarded to Poston Butte High School will be used for the renovation of the teachers and staff lounge. This renovation aims to provide a more comfortable and supportive environment for educators, recognizing the critical role they play in shaping the future of the community’s youth.
- Friends of Pinal County Animal Shelter & Rescues, Inc. – $2,000. Friends of Pinal County Animal Shelter & Rescues, Inc. received funding to support their spay/neuter voucher program. This program encourages Pinal County residents to spay or neuter their pets by subsidizing the cost of the procedure, ultimately reducing the number of unwanted animals turned into and found by Pinal County Animal Care and Control. Those interested in donating to this cause can visit Pinal County Animal Care and Control’s donation page.
- South Florence Volunteer Fire Department – $2,500. The South Florence Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a grant to assist in their ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the local community. The funds will be used to purchase essential personal protective equipment (PPE) for their team, enabling the department to respond more effectively to emergencies and continue providing vital services. Anyone interested in contributing to the volunteer firefighter group can visit their website at southflorencefire.org.
- FUSD Community Education – $1,500. The Florence Unified School District’s Community Education program received a grant for their Backpack Drive initiative. This program aims to provide students with the necessary supplies for the school year, ensuring that all children have the tools they need to succeed academically. The donation from Florence Copper helps ensure that the annual backpack event is a success. Support from businesses in the community ensures the program can continue distributing over 2,500 backpacks filled with supplies.
- Friends of the Casa Grande Ruins – $1,500. The grant, which will be officially presented in Fall 2024, will support Phase III of the Casa Grande Ruins Pollinator Gardens. In March 2023, the Florence Copper Community Foundation helped support the initial phases of the Pollinator Gardens through a $1,000 grant award.
John Mays, General Manager of Florence Copper, expressed his enthusiasm for the Foundation’s continued support of local initiatives. “We are honored to contribute to such worthy causes and are committed to making a meaningful difference in our community. These grants reflect our dedication to supporting education, the environment, animal welfare, emergency services, and the overall well-being of Florence residents.”
The Florence Copper Community Foundation remains dedicated to identifying and supporting projects that enhance the quality of life in the community. By providing these grants, the Foundation hopes to inspire positive change and foster a sense of unity and collaboration among local organizations.
