The Florence Copper Community Foundation is proud to award a $2,000 grant to the South Florence Volunteer Fire Department to support its ongoing efforts in fire protection and emergency response. This funding will help expand the department’s wildland fire response capabilities, ensuring volunteers have the necessary tools to protect the rural communities south of Florence.

Founded in 2020, the South Florence Volunteer Fire Department serves the Cactus Forest and South Florence areas, providing critical fire response services where no other emergency fire resources exist. The department operates entirely through community volunteers who respond to emergencies as their schedules allow.

With this grant, the department will acquire specialized equipment for wildland fire response, including hoses, nozzles, valves, and hand tools. These resources will enable volunteers to safely and effectively combat desert and grass fires, preventing their spread and reducing the risk to homes and properties.

Larry Vincent, Chief of the South Florence Volunteer Fire Department, expressed his appreciation for the grant, noting “We are totally volunteer and have zero revenue stream options. This award keeps our community funded with continued fire protection and is truly appreciated.”

This is not the first time the Florence Copper Community Foundation has supported the department. In a previous grant of $2,500, the Foundation helped fund the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure firefighter safety. This continued partnership underscores the Foundation’s commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness in the Florence area.

The Florence Copper Community Foundation is honored to assist the South Florence Volunteer Fire Department in its mission to protect the community. Through this funding, the Foundation supports local volunteers who selflessly serve their neighbors, ensuring that vital emergency fire services remain available in the region.
