Florence Copper Community Foundation is proud to announce a $2,000 grant to Let’s Go Compost, a Phoenix-based nonprofit dedicated to reducing food waste and promoting composting education in K-12 public schools. This grant will help expand hands-on learning opportunities for students in Florence schools, equipping them with essential skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).

Lauren Click, Executive Director of Let’s Go Compost, expressed her gratitude, stating, “We’re thrilled to have Florence Copper’s support in expanding composting education for Florence schools. With this $2,000 grant, Florence Copper is helping students access hands-on learning that deepens their understanding of the impact food waste has on our local communities, all while growing their skills in STEAM. We couldn’t be more grateful to Florence Copper for investing in these young learners and their future.”

The grant will provide resources for composting education in the Florence Unified School District, supporting local schools in tackling food waste and its environmental impact. A recent study highlights that U.S. schools generate 39.2 pounds of food waste per student annually, contributing significantly to methane emissions and water waste. Programs like those offered by Let’s Go Compost aim to address these challenges while fostering a culture of sustainability.

Let’s Go Compost has already made a significant impact, supporting over 110 K-12 schools across 10 states with free educational tools and curricula. The organization’s mission is to prevent methane emissions by reducing food waste at schools, creating healthier learning environments, and equipping students with practical STEAM skills to address sustainability challenges.

The Florence Copper Community Foundation is honored to support initiatives that enhance education and sustainability in the community. Through this partnership with Let’s Go Compost, the Foundation looks forward to empowering the next generation with tools and knowledge to build a more sustainable future.
