Happy New Year from Florence Copper! As we begin 2026, Florence Copper is excited to share an important milestone: we have officially completed the construction program required to advance to commercial operations. This builds upon our production test facility (PTF), which successfully produced more than one million pounds of copper on site in Florence beginning in 2019.

Construction focused on two key areas: expanding the Florence Copper wellfield and building a larger SX/EW plant. This plant will plate LME Grade A copper cathode on site, creating a reliable domestic supply of U.S. finished copper.

Florence Copper’s first production of copper cathode from the commercial facility is expected early this year, marking another exciting step forward for the operation and an important milestone for U.S. copper production.

When fully operational, Florence Copper will have a production capacity of 85 million pounds of copper per year over its 22-year operating life. This will make us the third largest copper cathode producer in the nation at a time when the U.S. continues to rely heavily on foreign supply.

As operations expand, Florence Copper is proud to continue its commitment to promoting local job opportunities and economic growth. Our workforce has grown from 35 employees in early 2023 to more than 160 today, with plans to add approximately 40 more direct positions in the coming months. We are proud to say the majority of recent hires have come from Pinal County, reflecting our commitment to local jobs, workforce development, and long-term community investment.

We want to thank you for your continued support and look forward to remaining an active and engaged partner in the place we proudly call home.

Through its community grant program, Florence Copper was proud to announce a $1,000 grant to Nourish and Nurture. This grant will help fund emergency infant care items, including diapers, wipes, and formulas, for families facing financial hardship. This fund also will assist in expanding their reach by offering more support and more resources to parents facing challenges.

“This grant from the Florence Copper Community Foundation is more than financial support—it is hope for families who are struggling to provide the basics for their babies. Through our Little Bundles of Love program, we can put diapers and formulas directly into the hands of parents who often feel unseen and overwhelmed,” said Lauren Blankenhorn, Executive Director of Nourish and Nurture. “This gift reminds them that their community cares, and it allows us to stand beside them during one of the most important and tender seasons of their lives. We are profoundly grateful for this partnership and the impact it will have on the youngest members of Pinal County.”

The Florence Copper Community Foundation is honored to aid Nourish and Nurture in their mission and proud to support the families they serve.

The Florence Copper Community Foundation (“The Foundation”) awarded a $2,000 grant to Kada’s Promise. This grant will help fund and support the creation of comfort kits, which contain a teddy bear and blanket, for children facing trauma. These kits are distributed by first responders, child advocacy centers, shelters, and foster care agencies in Pinal County.

Kada’s Promise was founded in memory of Kadence, whose kindness and love for others inspired the mission to bring comfort to children in need. The organization ensures that every child knows they are loved, valued, and never alone. Each gift honors Kada’s promise, turning her story into hope for countless young lives. Her legacy lives through every bear and blanket.

“This grant means we can get so many more bears for the children who need them the most. This bear will be their friend, their confidant and hope that they can get out of their horrible situations. Kada’s Promise was to make sure all children would receive a bear that was homeless, abused, and neglected. You have helped keep this legacy alive for many years to come,” said Leisha Foss, Arizona Ambassador.

The Florence Copper Community Foundation was honored to present the grant award to Kada’s Promise alongside the Florence Fire Department, which also collected bears to donate to the organization.

Through its community grant program, Florence Copper contributed a $2,000 grant to the Salvation Army of Apache Junction. This contribution will help fund and strengthen the organization’s food bank, which will provide meals for families and individuals in need.

“We appreciate [the Foundation’s] support as we help those in our community that are in need. The food we give to families and individuals can mean the difference between food in their refrigerator or paying for electricity. As cost-of-living increases, we see more people coming to us as they struggle to make ends meet in today’s economy. This donation will allow us to ensure families and individuals have access to nutritious foods,” said Captain Darla Malone of the Salvation Army of Apache Junction.

Beyond their food bank, the Salvation Army offers a wide range of services for those in need throughout the community. These include utility assistance, snack bags and showers for the homeless, camp opportunities, Christmas gifts for children, and more.

The Florence Copper Community Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 grant to Good Shepherd Horse Rescue and Learning Center. This grant aims to assist with the costs for vet bills for rescued animals.

Located in Apache Junction, Good Shepherd has been a pillar of strength in the community since its founding. After the loss of their owner and president, Maria Jones, in 2011, the rescue faced significant challenges that threatened its mission. Through perseverance and the support of the community, Good Shepherd overcame those obstacles and continues to provide horses with a second chance at life.

Cindy Campton, President and Director of Good Shepherd Horse Rescue and Learning Center, shared, “We are thrilled to receive this generous $2,000 grant from Florence Copper, helping us provide the veterinary care our horses need to live healthy, happy lives. This past weekend we had a horse develop heat exhaustion and had to receive 40 liters of IV fluids to save him. As you can imagine, this was very costly, so [this] grant couldn’t come at a better time.”

The Florence Copper Community Foundation is honored to support Good Shepherd’s work, improving the lives of both horses and people in the community.

The Florence Copper Community Foundation awarded a $2,000 grant to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA). This grant will help cover the costs of transferring animals from Pinal County Animal Care and Control, helping to relieve overcrowding at the Pinal County facilities and ensuring these animals are given a second chance rather than being euthanized.

“The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is committed to collaborating with and supporting our region’s overcrowded municipal and rural shelters, and this generous grant from the Florence Copper Community Foundation will empower us to continue supporting Pinal County pets,” said Dr. Kristin Barney, CEO of HSSA. “We are so grateful for Florence Copper Community Foundation’s support of our collaboration.”

The Florence Copper Community Foundation is honored to support HSSA in making a lasting difference in the lives of both people and pets.

As we head into the final days of summer, Florence Copper is nearing a major milestone: the completion of construction on our commercial copper production facility. This new phase of development builds on the success of our Production Test Facility, which successfully produced over one million pounds of copper using our innovative and proven in-situ copper recovery (ISCR) process.

As of the end of June, construction was more than 90% complete, and we remain on schedule to begin producing copper cathode before the end of the year. Over 900,000 project hours have been completed without a single reportable injury or incident, an achievement we’re extremely proud of and one that reflects the strong safety culture upheld by every Florence Copper team member and contractor on site.

Approximately 330 construction and support personnel continue to advance work across our site on Hunt Highway. Recent progress includes the successful completion of all injection and recovery well drilling planned for the initial construction phase. These wells are the foundation of the ISCR process and are now in place ahead of commissioning. Meanwhile, construction of the solvent extraction/electrowinning (SX/EW) plant is almost complete (see above for a photo inside the plant construction). Once operational, this facility will plate pure copper cathode sheets right here in Florence, AZ.

Since January 2023, Florence Copper’s direct workforce has grown rapidly from 35 employees to more than 100 today. We’re proud that a majority of our new hires are local Pinal County residents. As the project advances into commercial operations, we anticipate hiring 70+ additional employees this year. These opportunities span a wide range of roles, including skilled technicians, maintenance staff, metallurgists and lab personnel, supervisors and team leads, security positions, and administrative support. Interested in applying? View our open positions here.

Florence Copper is proud to be the next major copper producer in the U.S. When fully operational, we are expected to become the third-largest copper cathode producer in the country, contributing to a more secure domestic supply of this critical mineral at a time when the U.S. continues to rely heavily on imports.

Florence Copper is grateful for the continued support of our neighbors and community partners as we move closer to commercial production. We look forward to sharing more exciting updates and milestones in the months ahead. Thank you for being part of the Florence Copper journey.
